Preloved

Preloved

It's been more than six months since my last post. Since then, I have had a lot to write about but minimal discipline to actually do the writing. This time, though, I really want to share a life update, particularly about my latest hobby that I find very satisfying: selling preloved things.

This has been on my mind for over six years. I first noticed and engaged with the idea of "preloved" when I heard about minimalism (specifically, the definition and practices I follow from this site).

TL;DR: If you have something that's still useful (in many ways: books can be read, clothes can be worn, electronic devices can be operated, and so on) but you rarely use it, you might want to consider selling it. If, after a certain period and reducing the price to the lowest possible amount, no one buys it, then you might want to donate it.

The same principle I applied for my items for the past 2-3 months. Clothes, shoes, electronic devices, books—practically everything worth selling. Well, not exactly copy-and-paste, but kind of copy-adjust-apply. For most of my clothes, I'd rather donate them right away because, as far as I can tell, selling preloved clothes is trickier than selling other items. People tend to be more subjective, picky, and would want to try them on by themselves rather than browsing online.

As for my electronic devices, books, and other items, please welcome: wildan preloved; a dedicated place to sell preloved/secondhand/used items curated by myself (and my wife, so far).

My newly-reactivated online shop on Tokopedia (which also has an Instagram account) has lately been busy handling quite a lot of transactions.

The mission is super simple:

to be the bridge between people who have lots of unused but still usable items and those who want to buy secondhand items at affordable prices.

For the preloved owners, they can:

  • Declutter their belongings
  • Get a fair amount of money for their preloved items
  • Feel satisfied that their items are still useful to others

And for the preloved seekers, they can:

  • Get secondhand items at relatively cheap prices
  • Acquire original items that are no longer available in official stores

Here's what the preloved seekers have said about the items they bought:

Reviews from the buyers of wildan preloved

It is still in the very early stages of a "business." Although I wouldn't call it a "business" yet, as I am doing it for fun and find real "reward" whenever buyers complete a transaction and are happy with the products they bought 😊

Moving forward

I know there will come a time when I run out of preloved items to sell. But I am experimenting with a new idea: finding preloved owners who might be in a similar situation to mine—wanting to declutter their belongings by selling and then donating them.

By maintaining a steady supply of preloved items and making them accessible to those looking for secondhand goods, we aim to ensure that these items do not go to waste. Instead, they will continue to serve a purpose and bring value to those who need them the most.
